Water-resistant, not waterproof and unbreathable
Fishers Camper· Review provided by cabelas.com · May 8, 2024
I loved the color, loved how lightweight it was.I bought it to replace my prior rain jacket that was heavier and fell apart for an upcoming camping trip where rain was predicted. It did not breathe, I was sweating in 78 degree weather. When I was caught in the rain, by the time I made it to my cabin, I was drenched through - it wasn't waterproof at all! It didn't say that I had to spray it for it to be waterproof; I didn't have to tdo that to my other jacket. Very disappointed as I am used to excellent quality from Columbia products. This is the first time ever that I felt the need to leave a review so others would not make the same mistake of thinking this is waterproof. I feel you need to update the tag to say water-resistant.
Get ready for a rain of sweat…!

I’m a big, big fan of Columbia attire and own SO many pieces. I was really excited about this coat and LOVED the color and fit the first time I tried it on. I bought it for a 9-day Costa Rica trip and am literally typing this review in Costa Rica while riding a tour bus because I’m THAT unhappy with it, it’s also the first review I’ve ever left. I’ve only used it once and I dread putting it on again. I spent a lot of time researching rain jackets and wanted something light, packable, and effective. My boyfriend has a similar red men’s Columbia raincoat, which we originally thought was the same..it wasn’t..his had lining and ventilation.😢

We were caught up in a big tropical storm on one of our first nights and needless to say, I was SOAKED when we finally made it back to our room. Whether it’s due to ventilation restrictions or something else, I would NOT recommend this coat for anywhere with heavy rains or high temperatures. It didn’t feel good on my skin in the rain, nor after. Now I feel like I’m stuck here with no proper coat when the next rain storms hits.

I think this coat would be fine for somewhere with lighter rain and moderate/mild temperatures..but not for me.
Columbia Sports Jacket

Columbia jacket material windbreaker keeps you warm especially for when I run/jog/walk. The interior is a single layer, good for outdoor workout wear but not long for indoors if it is humid because this material sticks to your skin, unlike their past jackets. This hood design gives full neck coverage for runs and keeps your neck from getting cold, the interior material they used before was better, cooling, slipped off skin easy like silk however, I like the design of this hood better, it is more efficient and practical. The back side is also more fitted than their jackets before, not as loose. I like it more spacious. Those with a toned, sleek figure will have no issues with this jacket as it is tailored more to those body types. Side zippers remain timeless to keep keys for run, a cell phone and cloth to wipe sweat from your face. Interior pockets are for bigger items. Straps on wrist where hands are adjustable was a wise design choice for all. Price on sale was good.
Good for wind, light rain in mild temperatures

This is a VERY lightweight, thin fabric, outer shell that is good for light to moderate rain or wind. There is no lining, and it will not keep you warm. It is on the shorter side, covers down to mid-bottom but shorter than my other, warm Columbia jacket. I bought it for mild temperature hiking in WINDY conditions, and it suits that purpose perfectly. I've also packed it for light rain when I travel because it is lightweight and takes little space in the suitcase. If I'm expecting heavier rain or colder weather I'd bring my longer, breatheable Eddie Bauer raincoat which has seam covers, heavier fabric, more bells and whistles. It is great to have for the right purpose. The neck loop closure (to keep the hood from blowing off) is user-unfriendly, and when I'm able to attach it, I can't detach it without looking in a mirror. For the price (on sale at a Columbia store) it was just what I was looking for.
